Off The Ground has the feel of an album where passionate commitment to the cause has engulfed any thought of musical accessibility. Even the leftover collaborations from the Flowers In The Dirt sessions ("Mistress And Maid" and "The Lovers That Never Were"), co-written with Elvis Costello fail to lift the Off The Ground out of the realms of well-meaning ordinariness.

Jul 03, · It's a perfectly decent album. Maybe it got flack at the time because it came directly after Flowers in the Dirt, which was brilliant. Stand-out tracks for me are Hope of Deliverance, Off the Ground, Mistress and Maid, Winedark Open Sea and Biker Like an Icon, but the whole album is so uplifting. If I'm ever feeling sad, I'll put this on.
